Frequently Asked Questions

How do we decide which day tour is best if we only have limited time in Ireland?

If time is limited, we help guests choose a day tour based on travel pace, interests, and energy levels, not just popularity. Some tours focus on deep historical immersion, while others prioritise scenery or city life. By understanding what excites you most: ancient sites, landscapes, or cultural hubs, we can recommend the ideal tour.

Each day tour varies in activity level, but all can be adapted. Some guests prefer longer walks and exploration, while others favour shorter strolls and scenic viewpoints. We tailor routes, walking time, and breaks to suit comfort levels, ensuring the day remains enjoyable and accessible without feeling restrictive or overly structured, regardless of age or fitness.

Our day tours balance exploration with breathing space. We intentionally include moments to pause, reflect, take photos, or enjoy a quiet coffee, rather than filling every minute. This approach prevents fatigue and allows guests to absorb what they’ve seen. The result is a day that feels full but not overwhelming.

Absolutely. One of the advantages of our private day tours is flexibility. If something sparks your curiosity, a viewpoint, a local story, or a cultural stop, we can adjust the route when time allows. This freedom often leads to unexpected highlights, making each tour feel organic.

Very little. Many guests arrive with a general idea of what they want to see, and we help shape the rest. Once you share your interests, travel dates, and pace preferences, we handle the planning. This makes our day tours ideal for travellers who want to travel without the stress of overplanning or rigid schedules.

Driving in Ireland can often be challenging as searching for your ancestors on local roads can be difficult and time consuming. Royal Historical tours qualified tour guide and certified genealogist can take you ‘home’. Do you require genealogy research? We are partnered with award winning genealogy company, My Ireland Heritage that can undertake your genealogy research as they specialize in finding your ancestors exact location in the 1800’s.

I hired Ian Darragh as my guide for the day. Not only is he incredibly engaging, funny and personable but astutely experienced in genealogy and Irish history – the good, bad and ugly. There was not a moment that I wasn’t fascinated with the tales.

BUT what took it over the top was his perseverance in the goal to help me locate some kind of trace of my ancestors. With a stop at the Louth County Library and a few friendly calls on some local elders we headed to Monasterboice to see the High Cross. What was wholy unexpected was to find my ancestors memorial just yards away in the same graveyard!

The day was beyond memorable and I cannot wait to book another adventure with Ian as I continue to research my Irish Ancestors and discover more about the amazing isle of Ireland.
